Oklahoma Forestry Services monitors insect activity as related to forest health in the state.  Current issues include:

  • A recent concern is a pest which threatens ash trees in our state, the Emerald Ash Borer.  While not present in Oklahoma it has been found in a neighboring state and its expansion has been traced to firewood movement from infected areas.
  • Southern Pine Beetle occurrrence in Oklahoma is monitored through trapping and aerial detection flight to determine its activity. Oklahoma presently has a low occurencee of Southern Pine Beetle.
