Statewide Discussion:
Elevated fire danger will be present today over much of Oklahoma with winds out of the NNW at 16-28 gusting to near 40 mph this afternoon. Dormant fuels have dried substantially from mid-week and will support active fire behavior with rapid rates of spread.

Generally, temperatures will range from 55° - 62° and afternoon relative humidity will drop to the low 20% range in the west and 35% in the east. Again, fire weather dry and dormant fuels will support active fire behavior with rapid rates of spread this afternoon.

Special Note to Firefighters:

Dry fuels above moist soils this time of year add complexity to wildland engine tactics. Fuels are primed for combustion, but access is often limited by the potential for getting an engine stuck. Utilize personnel on foot to scout ahead of engines to insure ability to access the fireline and maintain escape routes to safety zones.

Remember… ONLY YOU can prevent wildfires! Enjoy Oklahoma’s wildlands responsibly.

Report any suspicious wildland fire activity on the Arson Tip Line: 1-866-662-7766 (1-866-NO ARSON).
