Statewide Discussion:

A cold start and respectable overnight moisture recovery will compress the peak of the burning period to a few hours in the afternoon for most of Oklahoma. Dry conditions both today and tomorrow will hold limited fire danger in place.

The highest fire danger today will be present in the western tier of counties along the 100th meridian as well as the Panhandle counties. Afternoon relative humidity values in the area will likely fall below 30% by mid-afternoon as temperatures warm into the mid-40°’s (50° in Panhandle). Fine fuel moisture values of 6-7% will be prevalent this afternoon facilitating receptive fuels; however generally light south to southeast winds should provide ample opportunity for successful initial attack efforts. Note: light and variable winds will likely be present in the western half of the Panhandle.

Receptive fuels are expected in eastern and central Oklahoma with continued dry conditions and fine fuel moisture values in the 7-8% range this afternoon. But, southeast winds 7-10 mph will limit spread potential absent of significant topographic influence.
