Statewide Discussion: No reports of unusual fire activity or requests for State assistance were received yesterday.
The high to very high fire danger will exist across Oklahoma in response to a dry cold front that will pass through the state today. Winds prior to the frontal passage will be from the south-southwest sustained at 15-20 mph with gusts near 30 mph. This afternoon relative humidity is expected to drop into the 25-35% range with temperatures climbing into the 45-50 degree range.
After the frontal passage, the winds are forecast to switch to a north-northwest direction. Winds will be highest in northwest Oklahoma where a High Wind Advisory is in effect. Winds in northwest Oklahoma are expected to be from 20-35 mph with gusts near 45 mph. The strong winds are expected to diminish several hours after the frontal passage.
SPECIAL NOTE TO FIREFIGHTERS: If engaged on a wildfire today, be prepared for a potential wind shift should the cold front pass your location. If the front has not reached your fire, be sure the south and east flanks are secure to prevent losing the fire when the winds shift from the north-northwest.
SPECIAL NOTE TO THE PUBLIC: Outdoor burning is not recommended due to the strong winds expected today.
A County Commissioner Burn Ban is in effect for Ottawa County. Click on the link listed below for the latest and most current Burn Ban information:
