Statewide Discussion: Limited fire danger will remain in place in the Oklahoma Panhandle and along the extreme western edge of the state today while moist atmospheric conditions across central and eastern regions will generally squash any fire danger concerns in those areas. Precipitation chances ramp up Thursday and Friday with respectable probabilities for statewide precipitation noting that forecasted amounts in the Panhandle are not likely to total wetting amounts nor put much of a dent in the current drought indices.

Today: A brief period of moderate fire danger will develop today in the Oklahoma Panhandle and potentially the extreme western edge of Oklahoma along the 100th meridian. Overnight moisture recovery in this area was relatively poor in stark contrast to conditions in the central and eastern regions of the state. In the Panhandle counties, fine-dead fuel moisture values may briefly tap 5% early in the afternoon with improving indices by early evening. North winds this morning will gradually shift to the northeast diminishing later in the afternoon. In general, there is a lack of alignment in the fire environment and initial attack efforts on any new fires are expected to be successful.

The current forecast information indicates that troublesome fire danger concerns are not likely through the remainder of the week and into the weekend. The next update to the Oklahoma Wildfire Situation Report is planned for Monday, January 20, 2020 unless fire occurrence or fire danger merits otherwise.
