Statewide Discussion: Fire danger concerns today will again be confined to the Oklahoma Panhandle and far western Oklahoma while a moist environment in central and eastern Oklahoma will serve to stave off development of fire danger across most of the State. Drier conditions are expected tomorrow as a dry cold front moves across Oklahoma with limited fire danger developing in portions of western and central Oklahoma for a brief period in the afternoon while some precipitation chances begin in southeastern counties. Precipitation chances ramp up Thursday and Friday across the state alleviating fire danger concerns heading into the weekend.

Today: The highest fire danger indices today will again develop in the Oklahoma Panhandle. Fire danger will also settle in along the far western edge of the state. For the Panhandle counties, grass-dominated fuels will be very receptive. Fine-dead fuel values at 5% are likely during the afternoon tapping 4% during peak burning conditions when temperatures reach 64-67⁰ and relative humidity values fall into the 12-18% range under clear skies. South winds 13-17 mph with some gusts in excess of 25 mph in the western one-half of the Panhandle will drive potential for rates of fire spread 95-190 ft./min. with head fire flame lengths 7-12 ft. Similar fire behavior expectations are anticipated in the western tier of counties. Initial attack efforts are expected to be successful.
