Statewide Discussion:

A gradual warming trend is expected thawing those locations that received wintry weather. While portions of central and eastern Oklahoma will see chances of precipitation, limited fire danger will be present in the Oklahoma Panhandle and some areas of western Oklahoma. Increasing fire danger concern is expected in the Oklahoma Panhandle on Monday.

Today, fire danger will be largely limited by cold temperatures coupled with very good overnight moisture recovery and light winds during the afternoon. Although, the Oklahoma Panhandle may see fine-dead fuel moisture values of 6% (briefly 5% in Cimarron County) along with south winds during the afternoon hours sustained 15-21 mph gusting around 30 mph facilitating moderate rates of fire spread although little resistance to suppression efforts is expected.

Increased moisture will serve to limit fire danger Saturday/Sunday although best opportunities for precipitation remain southeast and central.

Monday does pose potential for elevated fire danger concern in the Oklahoma Panhandle given the current forecast data. Fire behavior prediction will be updated within the Oklahoma Wildfire Situation Report on Monday, although at this time the expectation suggest that temperatures in the 50°’s and afternoon relative humidity values in the teens driving fine-dead fuel moisture values into the very receptive range. Gusts nearing 40 mph will promote rapid rates of fire spread. Again, this assessment will be updated Monday morning.
