Statewide Discussion:

The highest fire danger indices today will reside in the Panhandle while much of Oklahoma will benefit from improved relative humidity values this afternoon. While new fire occurrence may be limited through the day, any fire that does become established may exhibit some resistance to control especially where brush and larger fuels are present. Above normal temperatures and increasing southwest winds will contribute to growing fire danger concerns in northwestern and northern Oklahoma on Wednesday.

Today, relative humidity values 18-28% are expected in the Panhandle as temperatures warm into the 60°’s. Southwest winds 12-17 mph with gusts in excess of 20 mph are forecast delivering moderate to rapid rates of fire spread in grass dominated fuels of the area. New fire occurrence in much of Oklahoma will be limited today with improved relative humidity values and seasonable temperatures.

There is a chance of showers in southeastern Oklahoma during the overnight hours, but fire danger concerns will increase during the afternoon on Wednesday in northwestern and northern Oklahoma. Above normal temperatures, persistently dry fuels and stronger southwest winds will support a fire environment that may produce rapid rates of fire spread and potential for some problematic fire behavior.
