A Red Flag Warning has been issued for 15 counties in western Oklahoma from 1:00 PM through 8:00 PM. In the warning area clear skies, temperatures in the low 70’s, south winds at 20-30 mph gusting to near 35 mph combined with low fuel moistures have the potential to promote rapid fire growth and some resistance to fire suppression efforts. The remainder of the state will be somewhat moderated with initial green-up underway, however warm and windy conditions will prevail. Tall grass and timber litter fuels are still viable and will support the potential for problematic fire behavior.
Special Note to Firefighters: When engaging in fire suppression operations, be sure that you are clear on instructions and assignments. Specifically, insure that you are informed on the strategy and employ tactics that achieve incident objectives.
Special Note to the Public: Outdoor burning in the Red Flag Warning area is strongly discouraged. Report any fires immediately to local fire departments.
